New Jersey Home Inspection Licensing Requirements

Quick Fact:  New Jersey has several requirements in place to receive a home inspection license. There are two different options for licensing:

1. From an education standpoint a person must be a high school graduate, have 180 hours of course study which include 40 hours of unpaid home inspections in the presence of a licensed New Jersey home inspector. Additionally, all license candidates must pass a national home inspector exam, called the National Home Inspectors Examination which is given by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors.

2. A candidate may receive licensing by completing 250 home inspections under the guidance of a licensed home inspector. 

Home Inspection Company Insurance Related Requirements:
New Jersey home inspector candidates are required to present E & O insurance in the amount of $500,000, per occurrence. The home inspection licensing board requires that the original certificate of insurance be sent directly from the insurance provider.
