New York Home Inspection Licensing Requirements

Fact: New York State has a home inspection professional licensing act on the record and those who perform home inspection services in the state are required to:

1. Be a high school graduate.
2. Pass a written or electronic examination approved by the secretary designed to test competence in home inspection practice. This includes passing an existing nationally recognized examination approved by the secretary.
3. Complete a course of study of not less than one hundred forty hours approved by the secretary of which at least forty hours shall have been in the form of unpaid field based inspections in the presence of and under the direct supervision of a home inspector licensed by the state of New York or a professional engineer or architect regulated by the state of New York.

Have performed not less than one hundred home inspections in the presence of and under the direct supervision of a home inspector licensed by the state of New York or a professional engineer or architect regulated by the state of New York
